Maryland Leaders: Fund SNAP Now!
Due to the federal shutdown, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments will not go out to over 680,000 Marylanders this month, including over 270,000 children.
Governor Moore has declared a State of Emergency but is (so far) only using that to give $10 million to area food banks. SNAP recipients will not be getting any direct cash assistance. While we support extra resources to our friends at our area food banks, we know this is not an adequate response to Marylanders losing SNAP benefits, and that families need the flexibility, independence, and security SNAP benefits provide.
On Friday, October 31st 90 organizations signed a letter to Governor Moore, Senate President Ferguson, and House Speaker Adrienne Jones urging Maryland’s leadership to provide state-funded SNAP benefits as soon as possible! Join us in telling that keeping Marylanders from going hungry is essential.
